UnitedHealth Group Cyberattack Updates

What happened?

On February 21, Change Healthcare was the target of a cyberattack that has led to widespread outages in systems commonly used for medical, dental, and pharmaceutical billing and insurance claims. The attack is preventing affected dentists from sending electronic claims and attachments to insurance companies to receive payment. It is also preventing some pharmacies from processing prescriptions for patients. The patient statement process through some software has also been disrupted.

I've been affected by this cyberattack. What are my next steps?

  1. Call your insurance and software company to learn if your claims went forward or not.
  2. If you use a practice management software, you must contact your administrator so they can be aware that claims are not going through.
  3. You may have to re-submit claims.
  4. Consumers who may have been affected by the cyberattack on Change Healthcare should immediately explore options offered by UHG to help keep their information safe, including credit monitoring and identity theft protection. Look for resources below.

When will things be resolved?
